I came to know about the EYC three years ago when I attended the Emmaus Teens Camp in 2011. I know it’s not by chance that I participated in EYC 2014. Somehow I believed that I was led to it.
Among the many things that happened at EYC, one that comes vividly to mind was the “exposure” visit to the Kayumadang dumpsite at Telipok. I saw heaps of stinky rubbish that we threw away and lots of them were plastic bags.
KENINGAU (CS) – Feb 10, 2014 was a day of rejoicing for the community of KKD St Francis of Assisi Kampung Tagai when the new community hall “Walai Pisompuruan” was officially blessed and declared open by Bishop Cornelius Piong in their presence.
KOTA KINABALU – Fr Brian Coogan mhm flew in all the way from London just to celebrate his 90th birthday with his students and old friends.
His ardent love for Sabah and the faithful people of God whom he had served for nine years from 1951-1960 has drawn him insistently back several times before. This time round, it was his wish to celebrate with the people whom he loves his 90th birthday.
KOTA KINABALU – Sabah, recognized as a model state for religious and racial harmony, was given the honour to host the program for World Interfaith Harmony Week 2014, which was recently celebrated in Kota Kinabalu Feb 7-9.
It is jointly organized by the Committee to Promote Understanding & Harmony among Religious Adherents (JKMPKA) and the National Integration and Unity Department (JPNIN).
KOTA KINABALU (CS) – The Council of the Religious (COR) in the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, with the blessing of Archbishop John Wong, celebrated the World Day for Consecrated Life (WDCL) 2014, beginning Feb 5 and ending Feb 10 instead of Feb 2, originally declared by the Universal Church to be observed on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
TANJUNG ARU – The inaugural Vocation Awareness Seminar to Consecrated Life was held at Stella Maris Church Catechetical Centre, Tanjung Aru Jan 17-19. It was jointly organized by the various Religious Congregations, namely the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FSIC), Brothers of St Gabriel (Monfort), Daughters of St Paul (DSP), Brothers of de La Salle (FSP) and Order of Franciscan Minor Capuchin (OFM Cap).
PAPAR (CS) – Jan 25, the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul, saw the First Profession of 3 novices of the FSIC, Sr Clarice George Guang (Telupid), Sr Jossekah Disius (Penampang) and Sr Anita Philip (Tambunan).
In his homily, Msgr Primus Jouil, who is the main celebrant for the Eucharistic Celebration, reminded the 3 novices that their ‘Call’ was to be like Paul’s, to “Get up and go…
First and foremost, I wouldn’t even be here writing down my experience if it’s not for Jesus who opened the eyes of my heart to participate in these 2 weeks of Emmaus Youth Camp 2014.
It was a worthwhile experience for me as I have never been away from home for this long. I’m glad I listened to my brother, Joshua and also my cousin, Sheerah as they were the ones who encouraged me to go and find my true self with Jesus.
