Sandakan Diocesan Human Development Commission formalized

IMG_6648opSANDAKAN: The inaugural meeting of the Diocesan Human Development Commission was held on Saturday, 18th Jan 18 at the Diocesan Retreat Centre, Ulu Dusun. In his welcoming speech, Bishop Julius extended his warm welcome and appreciation to all members of the commission for their presence. The prelate was grateful that after the third attempt, the commission was finally formalized.

Sandakan seminarians organise vocation roadshow in Telupid

TELUPID – The seminarians from the Diocese of Sandakan successfully organized a Weekend Experience programme with the youth at St Martin’s Parish, Telupid on 3-5 Jan 2014.

The organizing team was glad for the involvement and support of the parish priest, Fr Jasery and three Franciscan Sisters: Sr Appollonia fsic from Sandakan, Sr Lucynia fsic from Penampang, and Sr Liza fsic from Kota Belud.

Some 30 youths took part in the programme, which began with a fellowship dinner with the parishioners on Friday night.

The objective of the three-day event was to convey to the young people the meaning of vocation, especially the priestly and religious vocations.

Pauline Sisters celebrate 25 years of service in Sabah

IMG_6165OPKOTA KINABALU (CS) – The Daughters of St Paul (Pauline Sisters) celebrated 25 years of service in Sabah January 25, Feast of the Conversion of St Paul, at their newly opened Paulines Apostolic Centre Kota Kinabalu with a solemn Mass presided by Msgr Primus Jouil and concelebrated with Fr Jose Aripio, Provincial of the Society of St Paul, Philippine-Macau Province, and a short fellowship programme after the Mass.

Bishop Julius Invests Time On Youth

cs20140201_bishopyouthSANDAKAN(CS).- 14 members of the Diocesan Youth Apostolate (DYA) together with its Spiritual Adviser, Spiritual Assistant and a lay adviser gathered at a prominent hotel in Sandakan on Saturday, Jan 11 for a thanksgiving fellowship to celebrate Christmas and New Year. They have served a term of three years and would need to discern about recommitting for the next three-year term. Bishop Julius Dusin Gitom was the guest of honor.

Obituary: Fr Ton Putman Mhm

cs20140201_putmanmhmWe regret to announce the death in Holland, on December 30, 2013, at the age of 86, of Fr Ton Putman mhm.

Father Ton Putman was born and baptized as Johannes Adolfus Antonius Putman at Rotterdam, Holland, in 1927, but throughout his life he was known as “Ton”. He joined the Mill Hill Missionaries and was ordained a priest at St. Joseph’s College Mill Hill, London in 1951, when he also received his appointment to Sabah, the Diocese of Jesselton – as it was then known.

Keningau hosts Sabah Clergy Gathering

There comes a time when it is hard to find any priest to administer sacraments. These times are usually twice a year – January and September. In this bi-annual event, all the bishops and priests of the three dioceses in Sabah are gathered at one place for meeting, which is in January, and retreat, which is in September.

CMI Children Celebrate Christmas

The children of Church of Mary Immaculate (CMI) celebrated the birthday of our Lord Jesus Christ. with a Children Christmas Party on Sunday, Dec 22 at the CMI canteen. The occasion was well attended by over 100 parishioners, comprising of parents and 92 children who have registered earlier for the party.
