Vincent was a deacon of the Church at Saragossa Spain. He was brutally tortured and martyred at Valencia in the persecution under Diocletian in 304. His cult grew quickly and both St Augustine and St Leo preached sermons in his honour. He is the proto-martyr of Spain.
