KK prelate thanks God for his predecessor

goldenKOTA KINABALU – Archbishop John Wong, in his address during the anniversary dinner, recalled the response of Emeritus John Lee to serve God as His priest on 27 December 1964 at the old Sacred Heart Church, and later in 1987 as Bishop and in 2008 as Archbishop.

On the occasion of his golden jubilee, the prelate, on his own behalf as well as the faithful,  thanked and praised God for the gift of Archbishop Emeritus John Lee, for his perseverance and faithfulness as a priest, for his love of God and of the Church, and for patiently and diligently guiding the local Church into what it is today.

Retired prelate calls on all to support their bishop

IMG_7252KOTA KINABALU – “When a diocese has no bishop, there is no church.” Paraphrasing from the letters of St Ignatius of Antioch to the churches, who said “Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop”, Archbishop Emeritus John Lee called on  all  to “support your bishop.”

Smiling broadly but with a serious and firm tone, the Emeritus attempted to give an answer to the many who had wanted to hear about his 50 years of journeying in priestly service on the occasion of his golden jubilee dinner.

Retired prelate sings his “Te Deum Laudamu”

IMG_6895KOTA KINABALU (CS) – “Te Deum laudamus” rendered as “Thee, O God, we praise” – an early Christian hymn of praise –  fittingly chosen and led by Archbishop Emeritus John Lee in singing thanksgiving to God for his 50 years of priestly service towards the end of his Thanksgiving Mass coinciding with the Feast of the Holy Family at Sacred Heart Cathedral on 27 Dec 2014.

Sandakan Diocesan Education Commission meets

IMG_9669LAHAD DATU – Members of the Diocesan Education Commission convened at St Dominic’s Church for their second meeting and formation session for 2014 on 29th and 30th November.

The meeting touched on five main items: Proposed Constitution, Roles and Functions, Instrument of Governance, Constitution for Alumni in Mission Schools, and Government Grants (Federal and State).

SHPC basement rooms blessed during Abp Wong’s pastoral visit

IMG_5478KOTA KINABALU – In conjunction with the 3-in-1 special events of the parish on 23 Nov 2014, the newly constructed rooms at the basement of the Sacred Heart Parish Centre here were officially blessed and declared open by Archbishop John Wong.

The parish has been celebrating the 3-in-1, namely, the Feast of Christ the King, the dedication anniversary of the cathedral, and the pastoral visit of the Archbishop to the parish annually.

60 attend youth symposium in Rome

Anne and Pope Francis (1)VATICAN CITY – Sixty young people from various faiths around the world, including Sweden, Kenya, Albania, Cambodia and Mexico came together for the Youth Symposium on Prostitution and Human Trafficking on Nov 14-16 at Casina Pio IV, Vatican. The event was organised by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Interfaith Global Freedom Network and Vinculos en Red, an anti-trafficking NGO based in Argentina. From Malaysia, Good Shepherd was represented by Joseph Loh, a volunteer of the Good Shepherd Foundation in Taiwan and myself.

Sandakan celebrates Marian feast on Marian Mount

unnamedSANDAKAN – Around 120 parishioners including Bishop Julius, Fr Phillip Muji, the Good Shepherd Sisters and the Franciscan Sisters commemorated the Feast of Immaculate Conception beginning with the recitation of the Holy Rosary along the Rosary Corridor at Marian mount, and concluding with the Eucharistic Mass at the top of Marian Mount (pic).
