Thought for March: Lent, the shedding of the selfish me, for the greater Agape of He

16427361-christ-carrying-the-cross--antique-relief-italyCome Mar 5, we shall enter into Lent with the traditional distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday.
Lent is a penitential time; a solemn season in which we participate in the salvific actions of our Lord through Liturgical celebrations (Mass), and personal sacrifices in abstinence, fasting, prayer, confession and spiritual and corporal works of mercy. In a sense, through the Wisdom and guidance of the Church, we are called to die with Christ in order that we may (more fully) participate in His Resurrection, and His fullness of Life, on Easter Sunday. In effect, we are given an abundance of grace to live out our baptismal calling in a most efficacious manner.

Fr Coogan celebrates 90th

cooganKOTA KINABALU – Fr Brian Coogan mhm flew in all the way from London just to celebrate his 90th birthday with his students and old friends.

His ardent love for Sabah and the faithful people of God whom he had served for nine years from 1951-1960 has drawn him insistently back several times before. This time round, it was his wish to celebrate with the people whom he loves his 90th birthday.

In his welcoming speech, Bishop Julius extended his warm welcome and appreciation to all members of the commission for their presence. Obituary: Fr Ton Putman Mhm

cs20140201_putmanmhmWe regret to announce the death in Holland, on December 30, 2013, at the age of 86, of Fr Ton Putman mhm.

Father Ton Putman was born and baptized as Johannes Adolfus Antonius Putman at Rotterdam, Holland, in 1927, but throughout his life he was known as “Ton”. He joined the Mill Hill Missionaries and was ordained a priest at St. Joseph’s College Mill Hill, London in 1951, when he also received his appointment to Sabah, the Diocese of Jesselton – as it was then known.
