Fr Cosmas to commemorate ruby jubilee of priesthood
PENAMPANG – On December 27, Fr Cosmas Lee will commemorate his ruby jubilee of priesthood.
The celebration, however, will be held a day earlier on Dec 26, at 6 pm at St Simon Likas.
Born on 31 May 1950, Fr Cosmas is the eldest in a brood of nine boys and two girls born to Francis Lee and Francisca Wong.
He entered the St Francis Xavier Minor Seminary in Singapore in 1968 but had his philosophical studies in Rome (1971-1972) and theological studies in Mill Hill London (1973-1976).
He was ordained priest by the late Bishop Simon Fung on 27 Dec 1976. He celebrated his silver jubilee in 2001.
In the past 40 years, he has served in Penampang (1977-1979), Keningau (1991-1993), Kota Kinabalu (1993-2001), Tawau (2001-2009) and in Likas since 2008. After his licentiate studies in liturgy from 1979 to 1982, he lectured in Penang College General (1982-1983) and in St Peter’s College Kuching (1983, 1985-1989). He also took up language courses: Indonesian in 1984 and Chinese in 1990.
One of his accomplishments was the construction of the current Sacred Heart Parish Centre KK. An accomplished researcher, he was behind the publication of 100 Years of Good News in conjunction with the centenary of foundation of Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Aside from being parish priest, he also serves as head of the Liturgy Commission and as member of the College of Consultors.
