The Visitation commemorates the meeting between Mary and her cousin Elizabeth at Ein Kerem, just outside Jerusalem. Feeling the presence of his Divine Saviour, John the Baptist leapt in his mother’s womb on the Blessed Virgin’s arrival. Following Elizabeth’s words of greetings, Our Lady sang her Magnificat, a hymn praising the Lord for all that He had done for His handmaid and expressing her attitude of faith and humility. – CTS New Daily Roman Missal 2012, p 2718
