Maktab Nasional recognises outstanding achievements of its students

KOTA KINABALU  – Maktab Nasional recognised the outstanding achievements of its students for 2015 school year at the 28th Awards and Graduation ceremony at St Simon Educational Complex Likas on 29 Oct 2015. The awards were given for academic achievements for the year as well as for notable achievements in sports and extra-curricular activities. An award will enhance the recipient’s CV or resume.

Graduation night was a special occasion to honour exceptional students who, by their significant contributions and accomplishments, have brought recognition to themselves and the institution. It was also an occasion to acknowledge the families of those earning certificates for their support through the entire journey which has contributed an enormous impact on their children. Due credit was also given to the teachers for their contribution and hard work leading to the success of their students.

Graduation, one of many milestones in life, is that which defines a coming of age – the ending of an era in life as a student, and the inevitable moving on to a new stage in which they become an adult, an individual, a leader in the making. Many of them would have firm plans and a good idea of what they want to do next, nursing a dream and willing themselves to see it becoming a reality.

Msgr Primus Jouil, Chairman of the Board of Governors, in his address, commended the students for their achievement and hoped that their alma mater has instilled in them the good values of honesty, humility, and courage, at the same time honing their leadership skills which would stand them in good stead. He assured them that God would be with them every step of their way to get to where they set their heart on.

Among those present for the event were Archbishop Emeritus John Lee, Fr Thomas Madanan, Fr Tony Mojiwat, Bro Demosthenes A. Calabria, Bro Anthony Choi Ilnam, and members of the Board of Governors.

Msgr Primus  also handed out scrolls to 41 graduates who have completed their secondary education in Maktab Nasional. This was followed by performances by the school choir and the cultural dance club. Traditionally the form five graduates would also put up a performance and this year they chose to sing an old Beatles classic entitled “Hey Jude”. – Alex Funk
