TEACHERS’ DAY IN MALAYSIA

Teachers’ Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.

The idea of celebrating Teachers’ Day took root in many countries during the 19th century; in most cases, they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education. This is the primary reason why countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other International Days. (Cf. en.wikipedia.org)

Teachers’ Day in Malaysia is held annually on May 16. Although it is not an official school holiday, celebrations are typically held in schools throughout the country. If May 16 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is observed on the preceding Friday.

Malaysian Teachers’ Day commemorates the endorsement of the Razak Report, an educational proposal aimed at reforming the educational system in Malaya (now Malaysia). This document has been the basis of the educational system in Malaya and eventually Malaysia ever since…(Cf. anydayguide.com)

At the beginning of Mass on Friday 24th April 2020, the Pope prayed for teachers and students during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

“We pray today for teachers who have to work so hard to provide lessons via the internet and other digital ways, and we also pray for students who have to take exams in a way they are not used to. Let us accompany them with prayer.” (Cf. Vaticannews.va)

Greetings to All Our Teachers

Teachers’ Day is a wonderful opportunity for us to say thank you and to express our deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to our hardworking teachers. Often time, teachers remain “our unsung heroes” for the work that they do in creating a better world. Entrusted to their care are our young, our future and the tremendous responsibility of educating and nurturing our youth to be the best they can be and to take their place in society. I believe the teachers in our schools do more than impart knowledge and develop the mind, more importantly they also dedicate each and every day, every lesson, every encounter with their students to  developing their hearts and souls and  to “build God’s Kingdom in the hearts of the students” in our schools.
