Keningau Diocese celebrates Chrism Mass
KENINGAU – The celebration of the Chrism Mass, renewal of priestly commitment, and the consecration of the oils took place at St Francis Xavier Cathedral here on 10 Apr 2017.
In his homily, the bishop reminded the priests that their main calling is to proclaim the good news. The priestly vocation is to be lived in the power of the Holy Spirit and to serve in the Spirit of Jesus.
“Priests are called to lead, teach and sanctify. To do so is no easy task as it requires faithfulness and a close relationship with Jesus Christ,” the bishop said.
As priest or bishop, he added, we must be mindful and grateful that the priestly vocation is mandated by God through our ordination.
He ended his homily by calling on the people to pray daily for the clergy.
After the homily, the 21 diocesan and one religious priests stood before Bishop Cornelius Piong to renew their priestly commitment to serve the church, a promise which they first made at their ordination.
After the renewal of priestly promises, Bishop Piong consecrated the Oil of Catechumen, Oil of the Sick and the Holy Chrism.- KOMSOS
