KK Archdiocese celebrates Consecrated Life Day

KOTA KINABALU – The religious men and women of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese celebrated 29th World Day of Consecrated Life on 2 February 2025 at the Carmelite Chapel here.  Archbishop John Wong presided at the Mass which saw representatives from the six religious institutes present in the archdiocese – Brothers of St Gabriel, Carmelite Nuns (host this year), Daughters of St Paul, Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, Religious of the Good Shepherd, Society of the Most Holy Trinity as well as two secular institutes – Carmelite Seculars and Institute of Our Lady of the Annunciation.  A local Carmelite friar based in Seremban also joined in the celebration.

In his homily, Abp Wong highlighted three points: 1) consecrated life as gift; 2) confusion if there were no religious present in the archdiocese and 3) thankfulness for the presence of the religious in the archdiocese.

After a simple repast prepared by the Carmelite Seculars, the religious men and women met and talked with the Carmelite nuns in their visiting parlour to conclude the celebration.

The Council of Religious had decided to keep this celebration low-keyed because there will be a grander one in October marking the Jubilee of Consecrated Life as part of the highlights of the Jubilee Year 2025. – Sr.Anna Yap,fsp
