MYTC chapel marks 10th anniversary of blessing

The guests receive a Murut traditional welcome on the way to the fellowship hall, 2 July 2017, MYTC Kinarut.

KINARUT – The Montfort Youth Training Centre here marked the 10th anniversary of the blessing of its chapel, St Paul’s Chapel On the Hill, with a simple celebration on 2 July 2017.

Archbishop John Wong presided at the anniversary Mass.  Joining him at the altar were Korean priests Fathers Leo Choi and Angelo Kim.

Chapel donor Datuk Victor Paul made it a point to attend the anniversary celebration yearly with his spouse.  They also brought the gifts of bread and wine to the altar.

After Mass, all adjourned to the open hall for a fellowship meal, preceded by a  Murut traditional welcome.

In both speeches by Brother Francis Xavier Gasper, MYTC Director, and Brother John Albert, Provincial Superior, there was a recalling of the challenge made by the donor to make the chapel a place of encounter with the Lord for the trainees.

However, in his speech, Datuk Paul said it was a twofold challenge he issued to the Brothers when they came to see him ten years ago: the first was to trust in divine providence in building the campus starting from scratch, and the second was, as recalled by both Brothers, to use the chapel as a place for encountering the Lord.

“The foundation you have built during your time at Montfort will give you the confidence to face the working environment.  The chapel will give you the strength.  But most importantly, the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, have set a moral foundation to guide you throughout your life,” Paul told the 2017 graduating class.

Among the invited guests present were several religious including one La Salle Brother, three Marist Brothers, and two Daughters of St Paul.  Gabrielite Brother Dominic Yeoh-Koh, former provincial, was on hand to welcome and mingled with the guests.

Aside from the inevitable cake-cutting, a down-memory-lane video clip was screened during the dinner as well performances by the Montfort trainees.
