Franciscan Alumni donates RM50k to school building project
KOTA KINABALU – The Alumni of St Francis Convent School presented a cheque amounting to RM50,ooo to the new school building committee on 25 Mar 2017.
The donation was received by Mary Gomez, head of the building committee, at the alumni’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at a local hotel here.
Since the commencement of the RM12m building project, the alumni has donated a total amount of RM177,000 (including this donation) towards the building fund.
Former teacher Mdm Agnes Hiew also contributed RM50,000 towards the building project.
Leena Toyoi of the school building fundraising committee presented a short update on the progress of the project. She said that it urgently needs another RM2.5m to complete the project by September 2017 at its earliest or June 2018 at the latest. RM1 million in pledges has yet to be received by the committee.
The AGM also saw the return of the incumbent office bearers for a new term 2017-2019: Datuk Aminah Ambrose (president), Mazni Manjaji (vice president), Patricia Pain (secretary), Georgina Jinawat (asst secretary), Felicity Jinu (treasurer), Dymphna Ubing (asst treasurer), with three new committee members: Aloysia Sang, Suzanne Stidi, and Maximiliana Seet.
In her address, the re-elected president expressed the hope that generous benefactors, past and present students and teachers, and well-wishers will come forward to support the upcoming 3rd Franciscan Night in aid of the school building project on Apr 22 at the Hakka Hall Likas.
