St Francis Kindergarten celebrates Chap Goh Mei
KOTA KINABALU – St Francis Kindergarten celebrated Chap Goh Mei at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre here on 10 Feb 2017.
The stage, decorated with Chinese calligraphy, lion heads, lanterns, cherry blossom and a rooster, displayed the handicraft skills of both teachers and pupils.
A pupil, dressed as a rooster, walked around to greet everyone, much to the amusement of the crowd.
The children, most of them garbed in Chinese attire, waited eagerly for the celebration to begin at one side of the hall with their teachers, while the parents were seated in the gallery.
The celebration began with the National, State and School Anthems. Father Joshua Liew led the opening prayer and concluded with the song Prayer of St Francis.
Headmistress Grace Shim urged all present to share the happiness and togetherness. The function was also the school’s first big event for 2017. She also took the opportunity to welcome the first year pupils.
The programme featured two performances by the children, family games, Guess the number of eggs, “Lau Sang,” receiving angpows, and dragon and lion dances.
Invitees included the assistant pastors, religious, BOG members and representatives from two schools.
The event ended with a closing prayer by Father Mitchelly Kiun. – SHC SOCCOM
