Papar Parish celebrates Lunar New Year Mass
PAPAR – Hundreds of parishioners of St Joseph here celebrated Lunar New Year Mass on 28 Jan 2017.
Father Thomas Yip presided over the Mass with Father Thomas Madanan as concelebrant.
The red motif was enhanced by the attire of the faithful in scarlet red, maroon or pinkish traditional or modified cheongsam.
In his homily, Fr Yip highlighted the meaning of the rooster (chi), one of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. It means chance and opportunity, and the priest hoped that despite challenges and hardships, families and communities will have peaceful lives.
Mandarin oranges were blessed and distributed to children and the elderly after the Mass by the pastors and the Chinese community leaders.
The celebration ended with dragon and lion dance performances, orchestrated spontaneously by Fr Yip. – William C Mindus, SOCCOM Papar-Limbahau
