Last organised pilgrimage to SHC Door of Mercy gathers thousands
KOTA KINABALU – Almost 3,000 pilgrims gathered for the last organised pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Sacred Heart Cathedral here on 12 Nov 2016.
This surprised the organisers who never expected such a big crowd. This was understandable in view of the closing of the Holy Door to conclude the Jubilee Year of Mercy on the following Sunday, Nov 20.
In spite of the torrid heat, the pilgrims, led by Father Max Hontor, chanted the Litany of the Saints as they wound their way from the parish centre to the cathedral.
Holy Mass began once the last pilgrim entered the Holy Door. It was concelebrated by Fr Hontor and Father Joshua Liew.
A similar scenario took place at the Holy Door at St Peter Claver Ranau on the same day.
The Holy Doors in Kudat, Limbahau and Ranau would be closed on Nov 13, simultaneously with all Holy Doors in different dioceses worldwide. The official closing of the Holy Year by Pope Francis will be at St Peter’s Basilica Vatican City.
