Inaugural BM family seminar attracts 51 families
KOTA KINABALU – The inaugural family seminar organised jointly by the Family Life, Catetchetical and Youth committees of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish here attracted 51 families.
The Bahasa Malaysia seminar entitled Aku dan Keluargaku (I and My Family) took place on 12 Nov 2016 at the parish centre.
Its objectives were to foster closer bonds within the family and to build Christ-centred families. It has been organised under the Family Life Commission in other parishes since 2010.
There were five input sessions (1) communication in the family; (2) understanding one’s children; (3) how to overcome challenges confronting the family.
After the third session, the participants – about 150 – were divided into different groups (fathers, mothers, children) for sharing on the different challenges encounted. The children were subdivided by age level: pre-adolescents, teenagers, young adults.
After lunch, the participants came together for the rite of reconciliation in the family (session 4) and listened to each other’s hopes for the family (session 5). The seminar ended with an evaluation of the seminar.
