Carmelite Seculars organise Marian talk

marian talk 2016

KOTA KINABALU – The Carmelite Seculars (OCDS) organised a Marian talk at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre here on 29 Oct 2016.

Carmelite Friar Fr Kenneth Gopal, 34, gave a talk entitled Mary in the Carmelite Tradition: Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Brown Scapular to about 70 people.

In his talk, Fr Gopal explained briefly the history of the Carmelite Order and how the Blessed Mother is seen as patroness, mother and sister of the order.  He also touched on the brown Scapular as a sign of Christian faith and commitment.

The friar also touched on the many ways of meditation in response to a query from the floor.

Based in Singapore, Fr Gopal is the Taiwan-Singapore Carmelite Provincial Delegate for OCDS Malaysia visiting the KK OCDS from Oct 27-31.  Born in Klang, he entered the Carmelite Order in Singapore in 2004, took his solemn vows in 2010 and was ordained priest in 2011.  This was his third visit to Sabah since his appointment as Provincial Delegate in 2014.

Currently, the province has two Sabahan friars: Daniel Lim of Lahad Datu and George Ho of Tawau.
