Over 500 turn up for RCIA/Sunday School facilitators workshop

KOTA KINABALU – Over 500 facilitators from the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and Sunday School across the Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese turned up for the workshop organised by the Catechetical Commission recently.
The organisers were surprised at the large turnout as only 500 registered, and 545 turned up. The workshop took place at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre here on 5 March 2016. The event consisted of two inputs, one sharing and a workshop after lunch. Father Nicholas Stephen, Spiritual Adviser to the commission, tackled the session on the facilitator’s leadership qualities while Commission Head Sr Dariah Ajap fsic spoke on the RCIA process. Richard Angkis shared on the revised RCIA handbook: Mengikuti Yesus Kristus I, based on the 2000 Perjalanan Kita Bersama. He explained the revisions made, adapted from the Indonesian model, expanding the sessions from 47 to 53. This handbook is the first of three volumes.
For the workshop after lunch, the participants went into their parish groups, either RCIA or Sunday School, to discuss the process and methodology of using the revised handbook for a year. Sacred Heart Cathedral has started using it on an experimental basis. Feedback will be given in their next gathering in 2017. On 18 June this year the commission has invited Regional Catechetical Commission Head Fr Alvin Ho sj to talk on methodology for RCIA and Sunday School facilitators.
