Church head urges confirmands to heed 12 words as guidelines
TANJUNG ARU (CS) –Archbishop John Wong urged confirmands to heed his twelve words as guidelines for their lives. He gave these words to 71 young people when he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to them at Stella Maris Parish here on 24 Jan 2016. Parish priest Msgr Primus Jouil concelebrated with him. Deacon Joshua Liew assisted at the altar.
The archbishop told the congregation present that it was a special day for the confirmands as they received in faith the sacrament which filled them with the Holy Spirit. He added that it was graduation day and encouraged the confirmands to join church activities.
Before lunch, he gave the youths 12 words to guide them forward. The 12 words are divided into four parts:
1st: Read the bible
2nd: Receive the sacraments
3rd: Obey the commandments
4th: Go and evangelise.
Dana, one of the confirmands, said in her sharing that Sunday school is different and less pressured. There, they don’t have to memorise complicated formulas like in ordinary school. But they are taught moral values and faith especially the teachings of the Church and words from the bible.
“Congratulations, we are now finally confirmed!” she said to her fellow confirmands.
On behalf of all confirmands, she thanked all teachers for their dedication to pass on the faith to the young people.
