KOTA KINABALU – Daily Massgoers at the Sacred Heart Cathedral here marked ten years of Fr Wilfred Atin’s priestly ministry with a simple breakfast fellowship after the Mass on 5 Dec 2015 at the parish canteen.  The attendees are not just from the cathedral parish itself but come from other parishes who find it convenient to attend the daily 6 am Mass before going to work or school nearby.

Fr Atin, 43, hails from Ranau.  He was ordained priest on 3 Dec 2005.  Currently, he is the director of the  Aspirants Formation House  in Taman Hiburan Penampang.  At the same time, he is one of the assistant priests at the cathedral.

According to one of the organisers of the breakfast fellowship, it began when a group of the morning Massgoers came together about five years ago and discussed what could be done to build up the fellowship among them.  The idea of having breakfast together every three months or so was mooted and implemented with the approval of the parish priest.  As time went on, the idea of celebrating the priestly anniversaries of the pastor and his assistants caught fire and carried out as a way of honouring and encouraging them in their priestly ministry.
