KOTA KINABALU – The carnival bazaar organised by St Catherine Laboure fundraising committee,  held at Sacred Heart Parish Centre here on 4 Oct 2015, over-achieved their target of RM100,000. All proceeds would be channelled to the building fund of St Catherine’s Church.

The event saw more than thirty stalls being set up by over  a hundred volunteers who put in time, effort and energy, and selling a wide array of goods ranging from handicrafts to home-cooked food, used clothing, fruits, flower and plants, religious items, and entertainment.

Stephen Sondoh, chairman of the Steering Church Building Committee, put on record their gratitude for the support of Archbishop John Wong, Msgr Primus Jouil, parish priests, parishioners and volunteers for making this fundraising project viable.

The development cost of the St Catherine’s Church is estimated at RM7 million, and today almost RM4.1 million has been raised. The shortfall of RM2.9 million has yet to be met.

The progress of construction is currently at slightly over the mid-stage. Upon completion, it will house the following:
Level 1 – Historical display museum, mini auditorium, cafeteria, religious cum stationery bookshop
Level 2 – Meeting rooms, parish offices
Level 3 – Multipurpose hall
Level 4 – Catechetical centre
Level 5 – Church proper
Level 6 – Mezzanine floor

The Steering Building Committee seeks the generous support of sponsors and benefactors to enable the completion of the building of the church. Contribution of any amount can be channelled to the building fund bank account (Maybank), payable to RTDKK St Catherine Church Putatan, Account No. 510189007514.
