SHC celebrates 60 years of novena devotion
KOTA KINABALU – Sacred Heart Cathedral here celebrated 60 years of Our Lady of Perpetual Help novena devotion Oct 30. It also marked the closing of the Rosary Month. At the end of the concelebrated Mass, Abp John Wong exhorted the faithful gathered-about 500 of them-to continue with their practices of piety of praying the rosary and the novena. The celebration was preceded by a first-time-ever nine-day novena and rosary recitation Oct 22-30. What was remarkable was the turnout of quite a sizable crowd for the novena – to the amazement of the organising team. The devotion was introduced to our parish in 1955 by Redemptorist Fr Joyce of Singapore. The celebration closed with a simple but warm repast at the parish centre.
