Cathedral parish promotes Catholic mission schools
SANDAKAN – Saint Mary’s Cathedral parish, through the concerted effort and collaboration of all its school boards of governors of the five Catholic mission schools here, held a campaign to promote its schools on 29 Aug 2015.
The five schools–SK St Mary Town, SK St Mary’s Convent, SK St Mary Labuk, SMK St Mary, and SMK Konven St Cecilia–set up exhibition booths at St Mary’s Exhibition Gallery, in front of the parish hall. The exhibition was graced by Bishop Julius Gitom before Sunset Mass. In attendance were the chairpersons and members of the BOGs, school heads and Catholic teachers, Parish Pastoral Council members, Deacon Stanley, religious and parishioners.
In his welcoming speech, the bishop extended his greetings to all those present. He told them that it was the responsibility of all the parishioners to support the mission schools. He added that the presence of the Catholic students and teachers give the mission schools a “Catholic identity and character.” He exhorted the parents to register their children in the mission schools. – Helda Japanis
