53 confirmed at Stella Maris

TANJUNG ARU – Feb 1 saw 53 JWG students from the parish of Stella Maris Church being conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation by Archbishop John Wong.

JWG, Joyful Weekend Gathering is the Sunday School program of the parish to form and prepare students for Confirmation, ranging from 13-18 years of age.

Speaking to the parishioners at the parish hall after the Mass, the Archbishop  encouraged all to know their new parish priest well. Msgr Primus Jouil was transferred to the parish in the recent reshuffle of clergy in the archdiocese last October.

He underlined that faith is the most important thing to have, as with faith all things are possible, and reiterated the necessity of a continuing faith development  for every one.

It fell on Msgr Primus to   present confirmation gifts to the Confirmands. In his address, he shared the conviction of the Archbishop that faith development was indeed necessary and that it does not stop after Confirmation. He encouraged them to continue coming to the JWG Bible Class or other programs for the much needed support along their faith journey.

A breakfast fellowship was served and heartily enjoyed by all.

This being also his pastoral visit to the parish, the Archbishop also took time to meet with both the pastoral and finance councils to listen to the business of running the parish, to offer counsel and to be in solidarity with them. – Susie Willie
